UPDATE: Police identify man found in Portsmouth near Pebble Beach

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — Police have identified the man who was found deceased yesterday evening near Pebble Beach on Indian Avenue, along the Portsmouth/Middletown line.

65-year-old Leonidas Gonzalez of Marlborough was found deceased after police received a report for a possible dead body in the water.

Around 5:45 p.m. Monday, officials responded to the area via boat due to the rocky and dangerous terrain, and extracted Gonzalez from the water.

He was then shortly pronounced deceased by officials.

Police transported his body to McCorrie Point in Portsmouth in order to further the investigation in a safe location, according to a release.

Further stated in the release, Portsmouth officials said Gonzalez was last seen around 11:30 a.m. when he began to walk down the rocky terrain to continue to fish.

He had been fishing for several hours in the area beforehand that day.

Gonzalez known to frequent the area to fish.

No foul play is suspected, according to police.
