UPDATE: Police release identity of driver charged in deadly North Kingstown crash

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Police have released the name of the man behind the wheel of a Jeep that allegedly struck a bicyclist in North Kingstown yesterday. 

59-year-old Daniel Famiglietti, a former Providence Police officer was retired in 2022 and served as an officer for the department for 34 years, was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence after police arrived.

Providence Police confirmed that Famiglietti was the same individual who was arrested.

Officials also released the name of the woman who was killed.

A 53-year female cyclist, Linda Sherman, died yesterday while riding on Boston Neck Road at the intersection of Earle Drive when she was struck.

Famiglietti was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence after police arrive around 6:57 p.m.

Famiglietti was held overnight and arraigned on June 21.

The crash is currently under investigation by the North Kingstown Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Detective Division.
