UPDATE: Suspect arrested in New Bedford apartment building murder

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A suspect has been arrested in the Tuesday shooting murder of a New Bedford woman, according to the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.

Wilo Morales-Colon, 49, of New Bedford, is accused of murdering Karina Martinez-Ortiz, 32, in her Bolton Street apartment building.

He is charged with murder and unlawful carrying of a firearm.

Massachusetts State Police and New Bedford police obtained an arrest warrant for Morales-Colon Wednesday night.

Morales-Colon was tracked to Springfield, Mass., where was arrested Thursday morning, according to the Bristol County DA.

According to the DA, Morales-Colon and the victim Martinez-Ortiz were neighbors in the Bolton Street apartment building and had a past relationship.

Morales-Colon is being transported to New Bedford District Court for arraignment and is expected to face a judge at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
