UPDATED: Mark Weiner, longtime Democratic activist, passes away

Mark Weiner, an influential member of the Democratic National Committee has died.
The news of his passing came into the ABC6 newsroom Tuesday morning. He passed away overnight after a battle with cancer.
Weiner was a well-known Rhode Island politico who maintained close ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Also a committed fundraiser, Weiner helped bring in millions of dollars over the years for Bill and Hillary Clinton, among others.
Weiner held a fundraiser at his house for Hilary just last year.
Also a good friend of former Providence Mayor Joe Paolino, Weiner was a regular fixture on Paolino’s ‘In the Arena’ show here on ABC6.
His company Financial Innovations has made official merchandise for every democratic convention for the past 25 years.
In fact Weiner was planning on attending this year’s convention just hours before he passed away. He was 62 years old.
U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse released the following statement on his passing:
"Mark was active in Democratic politics for a generation, and he was a personal friend. It’s safe to say he was Rhode Island’s biggest Clinton fan, and I know how excited he was to see Hillary accept the Party’s nomination at this convention. Sandra and I extend our sincere condolences to Mark’s wife Susan and his entire family."
