PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The University of Rhode Island held an in person graduation ceremony Friday, a year after students in the class of 2020 lost out on a timely graduation.

Eight hundred students in the undergraduate and graduate classes got the chance to walk across stage.

Governor Dan McKee was the featured speaker at the ceremony, where he thanked students for their fortitude.

“Thank you for facing the COVID-19 pandemic in the earliest stages and being resilient. Thank you for acclimating to teh sudden changes to your life during what should’ve been a time of celebration,” McKee said. “Thank you for never quitting, and never giving up.”

URI also held a virtual ceremony for the class of 2020 last year.
