URI releases statement on employee involved in West Greenwich killing

A man who worked at the University of Rhode Island is charged with the murder of a West Greenwich man.
The school released a statement following the charges against 34-year-old Christian Lepore, a cook’s helper at the W. Alton Jones campus at URI. He is charge with the murder of John O’Neil who lived on John Potter Rd. in West Greenwich.
The school says Lepore was with Alton Jones since 2012 but had been employed by the school since 2007.
On Saturday, University Police were called to respond following an incident with an employee at W. Alton Jones.
John O’Neil’s wife, Alyson McCann, is also employed at URI. Professor Art Gold, Chair of the Department of Natural Resources Science had the following comments:
“Alyson McCann and her husband John "Jake" have been valued and beloved members of our department for over 25 years. Alyson is the Extension Water Quality Coordinator for the University of Rhode Island. She champions programs dealing with private wells and has worked with thousands of individuals to protect their waters. She is deeply respected within the state, New England and nationally. Everyone feels her loss deeply and we will do all we can to support her."
