URI student dies following swimming pool incident

NORTH KINGSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – The University of Rhode Island has put out a statement following an incident on Sunday that left one student dead.

The incident happened at the Tootell Physical Education Center pool on the Kingston Campus at around 4:30 p.m.

As emergency units arrived to the scene, the lifeguard of the pool was performing CPR on the student. 

The graduate student has been identified as 24-year-old Suhail Habeeb.

It is unclear at this time what exactly the incident was that led to this death.
