PROVIDENCE, RI-Thayer Street restaurants like Kartabar may be empty now– but they have a long list of couples expected to show up for dinner in the middle of a snow storm.

It’s a similar situation at Cafe Paragon: few cancellations.

“So far everything’s going as planned,” said Cafe Paragon assistant manager, Marie Joubert.

The restaurant thought they’d be slammed for lunch, but there was only one couple who changed their plans last minute.

Nick Sweeney said, “We heard it was going to be really stormy out and didn’t want to be out in the bad weather.”

“We had to come a little bit earlier because we weren’t gonna make it,” said Rachel Sullivan.

“They want to celebrate Valentine. They’re not gonna let the snow affect their night. That’s a night once a year, they want to be together,” said Kartabar owner, Philippe Maatouk.

But there are braver couples who aren’t letting the snow keep them from their special dates.

Steven Lawrence and Elizabeth Karas plan to catch a movie later.

Karas said, “It’s not gonna stop us from coming out.”

“Yeah same plan: Cable Car and we’re just gonna get in the truck and hit four–wheel drive and find parking. It’s not gonna stop us,” said Lawrence.

The few cancellations restaurants received are being rescheduled for Sunday.
