Victim in fatal wrong-way crash identified

The victim killed in a wrong-way crash on 95 North in Pawtucket Sunday has been identified as 26-year-old Flory Marleny Hernandez, of Central Falls.

According to Rhode Island State Police, 23-year-old Jeremy Leiva, of Providence, was driving while intoxicated and collided with a pick-up truck, killing Hernandez, his passenger.

Leiva was arraigned at Rhode Island Hospital Sunday and faces a number of charges, including Driving Under the Influence—Death Resulting, and Driving to Endanger.

Hernandez’s father, Carmen Hernandez says his daughter and Leiva were dating.

He talked to ABC 6 News through a translator.

“She was the most beautiful person that anyone can imagine,” said Hernandez.

Flory Marleny Hernandez was a mother of 2 children: a 7-year-old daughter and a 15-month-old son.

“He’s not mad at him because he’s human. We’re all human. He’s just very sad that he lost his daughter,” said Hernandez through a translator.

The two passengers in the pick-up truck that collided with Leiva are both in serious both not life threatening condition at Rhode Island Hospital. That couple has been identified as 33-year-old Andrea Spillane and 43-year-old Scott Spillane of Taunton.

Hernandez’s family wants to send her body back to Guatemala. They are accepting donations to help cover the funeral costs. If you are interested in contributing, you can contact Hernandez’s brother Carlos at 401-288-7819.
