WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – Mourners visited the Station Nightclub Fire memorial Wednesday to honor the 100 lives lost in station night club fire 16 years ago to the day.
A thin blanket of snow covered the ground as they visit the West Warwick site.
Loved ones carefully placing flowers at the stones and among those coming to pay their respects, an Attleboro firefighter who was working that tragic night.
While he didn’t personally answer the call the events of the evening have always stuck with him.
“It’s very sad, obviously, just to think that something like that could happen here. And to think that it could have been any one of us that attends such a show like that,” he told ABC6.
The memorial park was dedicated in 2017.
For the first time, no formal memorial service is planned this year.
