Video shows explosion of flames at scene of Providence house fire
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — More than 50 Providence firefighters responded to Lubec Street to fight a house fire Monday afternoon.
The fire started just before 1 p.m. at the corner of Lubec and Havana Streets, spreading to several propane tanks at the home.
Video shared with ABC6 showed an explosion while firefighters were battling the flames.
Everyone made it out of the building, according to Deputy Assistant Chief Robert Butler, who said crews had to change their attack response after the explosion.
“They did take a step back, there were companies in the building at that time,” he said. “Everybody was notified to evacuate the building, and then we proceeded to put water on that area and then reenter the building.”
Butler said one firefighter was hurt and taken to the hospital to be treated for shoulder and back pain.
The Red Cross is helping eight people who were living inside the home.
