Video shows ICE agents break car window to apprehend Guatemalan immigrant in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement apprehended a Guatemalan immigrant in New Bedford.

According to WCVB, Juan Francisco Méndez was taken into custody on April 14.

Méndez’s wife shared a video to WCVB which shows an ICE agent smashing a car window to get to Méndez.

The couple told WCVB that the two were waiting for their lawyer in their car when the incident occurred.

Méndez’s lawyer said he has been in the country for two years and applied for asylum. Additionally, Méndez told WCVB he has no criminal history.

Mendez is currently being held in New Hampshire.
