Video shows ICE arresting man outside Portsmouth Police station
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — The Portsmouth Police Department offered new details Sunday about an ICE arrest that was made outside the police station last month.
Surveillance footage shows 29-year-old Josue Gomez of Acushnet walking out of the station, and then taken into custody by immigration officials.
Portsmouth Police said Gomez was arrested on July 11th as part of a child sex sting operation, in partnership with Homeland Security investigators.
He was held overnight, and Portsmouth Police said Homeland Security asked the department to notify ICE before they released him.
Police say they complied, and ICE then arrested Gomez after he posted bail and walked out of the station.
Portsmouth Police emphasized that, while they communicated with ICE, they did not work in tandem with the agents.
