Vineyard Wind announced they have begun cutting the damaged blade that led to widespread debris

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Vineyard Wind and GE Vernova announced on Tuesday that they have begun cutting part of the damaged blade on the wind turbine from the incident back on July 13 that has led to debris washing up on local beaches.

The controlled cutting took place this past Sunday and Monday, and Vineyard Wind said they have removed a substantial amount of the remaining portions of the damaged blade.

Vineyard Wind and GE Vernova said they had multiple vessels nearby to secure as much debris as possible during the cutting. This was done to reduce the risk of additional debris going into the ocean.

Vineyard Wind is also reporting that the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has issued an updated suspension order that allows the company to resume certain activities, such as installing towers and nacelles, activities unrelated to the July 13 incident.

The two companies said they are currently assessing their next steps.
