UPDATE: Mass. launches help site for stranded ITT Tech students

By: The Associated Press
After hundreds of Massachusetts ITT Tech students were suddenly shut out, as the college shut down, they can now get some extra guidance from the state.
Massachusetts has launched a "micro site" on the department of higher education’s website to help students find ways to cancel their loans or transfer credits to other schools.
35-thousand students across the country are scrambling to figure out what to do next… now that all 130 campuses are closing.
The for-profit college chain ITT Educational Services (ITT Tech) shut down its campuses days after the U.S. Department of Education banned it from enrolling new students who use federal financial aid.
The company, which operates vocational schools, announced “with profound regret” in a statement Tuesday, Sept. 6th 2016, that it is ending academic operations at all of its more than 130 campuses across 38 states, including the Wilmington and Norwood campuses in Massachusetts.
The company, based in Carmel, Indiana, says its move will have an impact on hundreds of thousands of students and alumni as well as more than 8,000 employees.
ITT Educational Services says it was forced to take the action after the U.S. Department of Education issued sanctions Aug. 25, including a ban on enrolling new students who rely on federal financial aid.
