St. Mary’s Home for Children raises over $250K for gifts this Christmas
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Over $250,000 was raised for Christmas gifts this year through the Angels for St. Mary’s campaign at St. Mary’s Home for Children.
St. Mary’s hosted FM Global volunteers to wrap the presents on Wednesday.
Volunteers Joan Hanrahan Miller and Candice Cogean said their office decided over 30 years ago to adopt a family at St. Mary’s rather than the usual Secret Santa or Yankee swap.
The campaign is for holiday gifts and necessities for the 400 children, all aged 6 to 21, at St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s officials said 771 wish lists were fulfilled this season.
The donation room was full of presents wrapped in red and green for the big day.
“It’s surprising that so many people do need these help, so it’s very important to do this,” Miller told ABC 6 News.
They agreed that giving to St. Mary’s was a much more rewarding experience than exchanging office supplies or a new pair or socks.
St. Mary’s is located at 420 Fruit Hill Rd. in North Providence.
