NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – Voters in Jamestown and Newport have elected Democrat Dawn Euer to fill the Rhode Island Senate seat once held by Teresa Paiva-Weed.

Euer was up against Republican Michael Smith.

Paiva-Weed left the Senate to head the Hospital Association of Rhode Island.
