PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — East Side residents in Providence have a new city councilor Thursday morning.

Democrat Nirva Rebecca LaFortune won in a landslide securing nearly 1,300 votes in Ward 3.

LaFortune defeated Republican David Lallier and Independent Chris Reynolds. The seat opened up when former Councilor Kevin Jackson was ousted following his embezzlement charge.
