Wareham man arrested for drug possession after fleeing police

WAREHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Wareham Police Department said a man was arrested early Sunday morning for drug possession and OUI after fleeing a traffic stop.

Sgt. Bryan Whalen said that Cody Connolly was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, failure to stop, leaving the scene, property damage, and drug offenses.

Whalen said that around 1 a.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle stop on Onset Avenue , with the stopped vehicle fleeing before the officer exited their vehicle.

The vehicle, allegedly driven by 32-year-old Connolly, drove up Tenth Street before crashing into a parked vehicle and fence on Union Avenue.

It is alleged that Connolly then exited his car and led officers on a foot chase, while also discarding a plastic bag into the woods.

Whalen said that Wareham police were joined by a Plymouth County Sherriff K-9 unit to search the woods, where they found Connolly, who witnesses alleged was the driver of the vehicle.

Police also found the plastic bag, which allegedly contained cocaine and mushrooms.

Connolly is set to be arraigned on Tuesday.
