Wareham man indicted after toddler’s overdose death

WAREHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A Wareham man was indicted Wednesday for his role in the overdose death of his two-and-a-half-year-old son.

The Plymouth District Attorney’s Office said 32-year-old Donald Humes was charged with manslaughter after methadone was found in his toddler’s system.

Police received a call from Humes on April 24, 2022, saying his son was unresponsive and not breathing.

Units responded to the home on Waban Avenue and initiated life-saving measurements before taking the toddler to the hospital.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Cameron Humes was pronounced dead at Tobey Hospital.

An investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office revealed the cause of death to be acute methadone intoxication.

Humes was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment of a child, in addition to manslaughter.

Officials said he will be arraigned on the charges in Brockton Superior Court at a later date.
