Warren town employee arrested after allegedly stealing items from DPW

WARREN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Warren Police Department said a town employee was accused of stealing from the Warren Department of Public Works and selling the items.

43-year-old Marco Carreiro, of Swansea, was charged with embezzlement and fraudulent conversion.

Police said detectives began investigating after items were allegedly stolen from the DPW and possibly sold through an online account.

On Aug. 29, Warren police arrested Carreiro, an employee at the Warren Department of Works, in connection to the investigation.

He was released on $3,000 personal recognizance and was suspended without pay, Warren police said.

Police in Swansea also charged Carreiro in connection to the same investigation with receiving stolen property under $1,200.
