Warwick man arrested for arson; sets fire to own home

WARWICK, R.I (WLNE) – A Warwick man was arrested on Thursday after setting fire to his own home Wednesday night.

Warwick emergency crews responded to 50 Evergreen Ave for a report of a residential structure fire at 8:15 p.m.

Personnel that arrived found a single-family home fully engulfed, and all the residents out of the house.

A joint investigation by Warwick Police, the Warwick Fire Department, and RI State Fire Marshalls Office determined the cause to be arson.

This lead to the arrest of 28-year-old Carlos Figueroa Ortiz.

Figueroa Ortiz was charged with First-degree Arson and Arraigned Thursday afternoon.

His next court date is set for June 24th.
