WARWICK, R.I. – A man has been arrested after he drove off during a traffic stop in Warwick.

State Police confirm a trooper pulled over 34-year-old Michael Valequette, of Warwick on Providence Street Monday morning.

When the trooper got out of his cruiser, Valequette took off.

State Police say he drove through the parking lot of a Subway restaurant and sideswiped the building, subsequently ditching his car a short distance away on Carrs Lane, a dead end road.

From there Valequette ran off into the woods.

When he drove off, troopers did not pursue Valequette, but while attempting to turn around a State Police cruiser struck another vehicle. There was minor damage caused by the collision, and no injuries

Valequette was arrested by State Police not long after.

State Police say Valequette is facing several charges including: reckless driving, eluding police, and driving without a license.

He was held overnight at the State Police Wickford Barracks as a probation violator, and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Kent County District Court.
