PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A Warwick man who traveled to Michigan to engage in sex with a minor has been charged in federal court.
43-year-old Charles Morancey has been charged with interstate travel to engage in sexual activity with a minor and receipt of child pornography.
It is alleged that Morancey picked up a 15-year-old girl from her home in Michigan and brought her back to his home in Rhode Island. Officials believe he engaged in illicit sexual activity with the girl while at his home.
Morancey was arrested by Warwick police on August 6, four days after he picked the girl up.
According to court documents Morancey and the girl started talking on social media where they exchanged sexually explicit messages and photographs.
When the girl said she was unhappy at home, Morancey helped arrange a plan to help her run away.Part of the plan was to make sure her parents couldn’t access her social media or locate her in any way.
Police were able to find the minor after she logged on to her Instagram from an IP address in Rhode Island. She was found at Morancey’s home and he was arrested later that day while out driving his car.
