Warwick, Middletown hosting school groundbreakings Monday

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)– More than two years after voters in Warwick approved a $350 million bond to build two new high schools in the city, city and school officials are preparing for the start of construction.

The groundbreaking for the new Toll Gate High School will happen on Monday at 1, with the groundbreaking for the new Pilgrim on Tuesday at noon.

Current plans are for the schools to be finished in time for students to use them at the beginning of the 2027-2028 school year.

Athletic fields would take one more year to complete, as the schools are being built on the existing Pilgrim and Toll Gate’s athletic fields.

Middletown will also hold their ceremony for the combined Middletown Middle-High School on Monday at 10.

Their new school will be built to serve 1,100 students from grades 6-12, with room for future expansion if necessary.

That project, funded by a $190 million bond, was approved by Middletown voters in 2023.

The Middle-High School will be located just north of Gaudet Middle School, according to the town’s website.
