Warwick Neck Elementary School dedicates community garden to retiring teacher

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A welcome surprise at a Warwick elementary school Thursday morning.

Catherine Maguire, a teacher at Warwick Neck Elementary School, is retiring after 43 years, and her school wanted to make her feel special.

School officials planned a fake fire drill and surprised Maguire by dedicating the school’s community garden to her.

Maguire has been a second grade teacher at the school for 32 years and was a teacher’s assistant before.

She said that her love for teaching started with her mom, and she plans to continue volunteering at the school during her retirement.
