Warwick nonprofit that provides hygiene products to those in need reopens
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick nonprofit Amenity Aid held its grand reopening on Thursday.
The organization provides hygiene and feminine products for community members in need
The organization functions similarly to a food bank, but instead provides things like deodorant, soap, and period and other feminine hygiene products.
Founder Liz Duggan said as the only hygiene hub in Rhode Island it can be easy to overlook how important access to these products can be.
“The term that we use is hygiene poverty, and when it comes to menstruation, period poverty,” Duggan said. “It is huge in Rhode Island.”
The new building is located at 33 Plan Way in Warwick, and Duggan said it is nearly 12 times the size of the old location
Duggan added that the organization is always looking for volunteers to help deliver and pack products.
“We’re talking about changing people’s lives, having a child go to school feeling confident and clean in what they’re doing,” she said. “Having somebody that wants to re-enter the workforce or get to whatever next step they have in their life, having the confidence and dignity to do so.”
