UPDATE: Warwick police officer released from hospital after a head on collision with stone wall

UPDATE: Cody Wild has been identified as the Warwick Police officer who crashed head-on into a stone wall early Sunday morning. 

The Warwick Police Department told ABC6 News that he has been released from the hospital.

WARWICK, R.I (WLNE) – A Warwick Police SUV crashed head-on into a stone wall early Sunday morning. 

Police say at approximately 2:34 a.m, they responded to a report of a crash at the roundabout of Veterans Memorial Drive and Greenwich Ave in Warwick. 

Warwick Police arrived on the scene to find a police SUV had crashed into the wall within the center of the roundabout. 

An Initial investigation reveals that the officer driving the vehicle was traveling westbound on Veterans Memorial Drive, with his emergency lights active, after responding to a request for back up from an officer attempting to apprehend a subject with a warrant. 

The officer in the SUV was conscious but had several injuries, police say. 

He was transported by ambulance to RI hospital where police say he is currently in stable condition. 

The Traffic Unit Reconstruction team is currently investigating the incident, and the department is urging anybody with information related to the accident to contact Warwick Police. 

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries have been reported.
