Warwick police issue public safety warning after fatal overdose from fentanyl-laced marijuana
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Warwick Police Department announced Thursday that a 27-year-old woman died from a fentanyl overdose after consuming marijuana laced with the deadly drug.
The victim was found unresponsive at a Warwick hotel Thursday at approximately 2:34 a.m. after consuming marijuana not purchased at a licensed dispensary.
Life-saving efforts were attempted, but the woman was pronounced deceased, according to Warwick police.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that the marijuana was contaminated with fentanyl, and Warwick police are actively investigating the source of the drug.
