WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Warwick Police Department will partner with community organizations to offer sober rides Wednesday night.

The department will offer sober rides home for free to and from anywhere in Warwick to help keep people safe on “Blackout Wednesday” — one of the biggest drinking holidays of the year.

Those in need of a ride can call 401-773-7113 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The department additionally teamed up to offer $20 Uber vouchers from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. for people leaving a location in Warwick. People can redeem the voucher online.

Police in Warwick and communities across Rhode Island will be eyeing the roads for distracted and impaired drivers — which they say increases every holiday season.

Warwick police noted that by choosing a safe ride home, people are protecting the lives of others as well as their own.
