WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – An off-duty Warwick Police officer has been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and malicious damage following an altercation earlier this month.
Warwick Police confirmed that 27-year-old Boardman, a member of the force since 2016, was arrested following an apparent road rage incident.
According to an arrest report, four men were traveling toward Warwick around 1:00 a.m. on July 14 when they noticed a vehicle, operated by Boardman, following them and flashing its high beams.
The two vehicles came to a stop beside each other at a red light, where a comment was made regarding Boardman tailgating the group of men.
The report said Boardman then exited his vehicle before breaking off the passenger’s side-view mirror of the victims’ car and driving away from the scene.
After an investigation into the incident and interviews with the victims, Warwick Police were able to identify Boardman as the suspect and place him under arrest.
Boardman faces one count each of disorderly conduct and malicious damage. He was issued a summons to appear in court at a later date.
Warwick Police Chief Colonel Rick Rathbun said Boardman has been suspended from the force pending the criminal case and an internal investigation.
