Warwick Police warn of phone scam

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Police are warning residents of a phone scam in Warwick.

The Warwick Police Department said Wednesday that officials are investigating a scam involving phone calls pretending to be from the police department.

The department says the scammers tell residents that police are calling to collect outstanding fines.

Police said that these types of calls are fraudulent and should be ignored, adding that the department will not contact anyone requesting payment for fines or fees.

Warwick officials say anyone who received a similar call should contact the department with the correct non-emergency phone number (401-468-4200).
