WARWICK, R.I. (AP) _ The Warwick School Committee has voted to hire a lawyer to investigate how Superintendent Richard D’Agostino and other school officials dealt with accusations against a teacher suspected of child abuse.

The school committee has hired Providence Attorney Vincent Ragosta. He says he will also be looking into past allegations and if the proper protocol was executed.

Mario Atoyan, a science teacher at Gorton Junior High School, was charged last month with sexually assaulting of a 15-year-old relative last June. He has also been accused inappropriate behavior with students.

D’Agostino initially put Atoyan on paid leave before the School Committee voted to suspend him without pay.
