Washington Bridge controlled demolition scheduled for Feb. 10
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that the next controlled demolition of part of the Washington Bridge is scheduled for Feb. 10.
RIDOT said a span for the old Gano Street off-ramp will be demolished beginning during the daytime, while a second controlled demolition for the same span is expected on Feb. 11.
The department added that barges will be placed below the bridge to capture the debris, and the barge will then be moved into position for another controlled demolition scheduled for around a week later.
“RIDOT remains in close coordination with the Coastal Resources Management Council, which has jurisdiction over these waters and examined the site at our request,” the department said. “A small amount of debris may enter the water, and if that occurs, RIDOT will remove it promptly.”
OSHA said it is conducting a workplace safety investigation on the demolition after a large chunk of bridge was removed during a controlled demolition on Feb. 2.
