Governor McKee issues State of Emergency, announces travel ban in R.I. throughout Saturday, RIPTA services suspended
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Governor McKee and State Officials joined together to speak on the expected snowstorm over the weekend.
Governor McKee explained that the next 24 hours have the potential for the most snowfall in the state’s history, so he has signed an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency.
“We’re ready for this storm, and we need Rhode Islanders to be ready,” McKee said.
An order has been signed for no tractor trailers to be on the road starting at 6 a.m. Saturday until midnight.
A travel ban for the general public has been put into effect from 8 a.m. Saturday morning until 8 p.m. Saturday night.
The order exempts essential workers, a list of which can be found by clicking here.
RIPTA has also announced it will be suspending all services throughout Saturday.
