Weather Alert Monday

A strong cold front is on the way for tonight through Monday. This front will keep the winds gusting to 40 mph overnight and bring in rain developing around midnight. Rainfall will be heavy at times overnight and through Monday morning. As a result, you will likely have a slow morning commute due to localized road flooding and the potential for hydroplaning and lowered visibility. With this in mind, your ABC6 Stormtrackers have issued an Alert for Monday. Through the day, there will be rain that will be heavy at times and even the chance of thunderstorms. Rainfall totals have the potential of topping out on the order of 1-2 inches with locally higher amounts particularly if we get into any thunderstorms. Winds will be breezy Monday from the south with occasional gusts to 25 mph and temperatures will top out in the upper-50s. The rain ends for Tuesday and even though the storm will have passed, the runoff from inches of rainfall will mean rising rivers. Our most vulnerable sites will be the Wood river at Hope Valley and the Pawcatuck in Westerly and we will monitor them closely for any flooding. The Pawtuxet in Cranston may also be affected. At least it will be dry Tuesday and with a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures will stay in the upper-50s. Wednesday will be the winner of the week, not only because it’s zeppole time, but because it looks mostly sunny with highs near 58. Clouds roll in for Thursday and the Spring equinox occurs at 5:01 am. Temperatures will be most spring like un the upper-50s. A cold front Thursday night into Friday will bring another round of rain and a big drop in temperatures as highs Friday only hit the mid-40s. Next weekend is full of optimism with ample sunshine and highs in the 50s.
