Wegimont pleads not guilty to assault charge

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — South Kingstown Town Councilor Jay Wegimont appeared in court Thursday for accusations he assaulted a political rival.

Narragansett Republican Town Committeeman Anthony D’Ellena accused Wegimont of assaulting him during a town council meeting on June 9.

Wegimont pled not guilty to a simple assault charge and was released on bail.

On June 19, Wegimont was placed on paid administrative leave from his position in the Communications Department of the Providence Public School Department due to the charge.
