WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — An Exeter-West Greenwich High School teacher has passed away suddenly, according to the West Greenwich Police Department.

The announcement of the passing of Lee Stetson was made Tuesday by the department.

From the statement, appearing on social media:

Lee was one of a kind, and had a heart of gold, impacting the lives of all that came into contact with him. He was a true community leader, advocating for his students, coaching basketball, and participating in numerous extra curricular activities.

Exeter-West Greenwich High School Principal Susan Chandler shared a statement that was sent to school families:

I met with all your children this morning to share the very sad and painful news that our school community lost a very beloved teacher last night, Mr. Stetson. Mr. Stetson was our Spanish teacher, basketball coach, our colleague but most of all, our friend. He had a heart of gold and smile that was shared with anyone he came in contact with.

There will be support for all students through Exeter-West Greenwich High School.
