West Nile detected in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) reported today that West Nile has been found in the Hicks Logan neighborhood of New Bedford.
The sample that the virus was found in was from last week and is from a primarily bird-biting mosquito. Officials say the risk level for infection remains low.
Residents are advised to take precautions when taking part in outdoor activities and to stay vigilant during the summer months.
The Bristol County Mosquito Project will be conducting additional ground spraying early Thursday morning south of I-195 and East of Route 18.
