West Warwick Police Officer saves 12-year-old who fell through ice
WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The West Warwick Police Department said that an officer jumped into the water of the Pawtuxet River to save a 12-year-old who had fallen through the ice.
Officers responded to the Crompton Fishing and Boat Launch around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 to find a juvenile male who was “partially submerged” in the water and clinging to ice.
Multiple officers grabbed ropes and life rings to assist with the rescue, while Officer Bond Sauer jumped into the water to grab the boy.
Officers were able to pull both Sauer and the boy to shore, and both were transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of exposure.
The department added that no ice is safe at this time.
