West Warwick World War II veteran celebrates 105th birthday

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Today is a very special birthday for one West Warwick resident.

State Representative Earl Read will wish resident and WWII veteran Peter Ricci a happy 105th birthday.

Ricci, a long time West Warwick resident, served in the Pacific, and worked as a mine sweeper during the Allied invasion of Okinawa.

He recalled being only 100 miles away from the Japanese main land when the atomic bomb was dropped in 1945.

ABC6 previously caught up with Ricci as he received a COVID-19 vaccine at 100 years old.

Representative Read will present a citation from the House of Representatives noting Ricci’s service.
