Westerly Library to become state’s first ‘Literary Landmark

WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) _ The Westerly Library and Wilcox Park are set to become Rhode Island’s first “Literary Landmark,” a designation given to places across the country in honor of famous authors.
The ceremony was scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the park. The “Literary Landmark” honor is due largely to the library’s collection of Margaret Wise Brown’s papers.
Brown wrote the children’s book “Goodnight Moon,” which sold over 11 million copies and is often listed among the top picture books. She died in 1952.
A friend of Brown’s sister gave the library a nearly complete set of her published works, personal papers, manuscripts and books in the 1950s.
Brown’s biographer plans to speak at the ceremony.
