Westerly man found guilty of sexual assault after 7-day trial

WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha announced Wednesday that a Westerly man was found guilty for sexually assaulting a woman victim back in 2019.

Neronha said 36-year-old Tyler Gelpi pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree sexual assault on Tuesday . He is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending a further sentencing hearing.

During the seven-day trial, the state proved that in March of 2019, Gelpi sexually assaulted a woman he knew at a residence in Westerly,

The Westerly Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
