Westerly to treat swamplands with mosquito larvicide

WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — As the warm weather picks up, so does the threat of mosquitos, and Westerly is getting prepared for the season.

The town is conducting its annual mosquito larvicide treatment across 500 acres of Chapman Swamp and nearby swamplands.

Depending on the weather, the treatment will take place either Friday or Monday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The larvicide is recommended by the state to control and limit the spread of West Nile Virus and eastern equine encephalitis.
