WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — A home on Drift Road in Westport suffered severe damage after an electrical fire ripped through the attic.

The Westport Fire Department responded to the scene and found light smoke coming from the attic vent.

Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire before it spread to the rest of the home.

In a Facebook post, the department shared that while the room of origin and attic space suffered significant fire and water damage, a good portion of the home remained intact and personal belongings, including family photos, were preserved by firefighters.

Darmouth Fire District No. 3 responded with a tank of water supply.

The family is currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.
