Westport man with three warrants arrested after police pursuit

WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — The Westport Police Department said it arrested a wanted man after a police pursuit on March 1.
Just before 3 p.m., police observed a vehicle, known to be operated by Darren Moran, who had a suspended license and three active warrants, entering State Road.
Officers then attempted a motor vehicle stop, which caused Moran to allegedly turn around and flee, according to Westport police.
The cruiser then followed Moran, who supposedly circled around a parking lot, ran a stop sign, and drove on the wrong side of the road for a short period of time.
Another cruiser called to assist arrived, which police said resulted in the defendant to allegedly pull into a parking lot, exit the vehicle, and flee into the woods.
The Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit and Westport Police Drone Unit searched the wooded area while police searched his residence.
According to police, Moran’s apartment door was found opened and he was not located inside his residence.
Police searched the area and discovered Moran standing inside a shed in the backyard, where he was taken into custody.
Moran was held without bail until his arraignment on Monday.
