Westport Police arrest man after alleged attempted rape

WESTPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Westport Police Department said it arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a woman on April 7.

David DeVeau was charged with indecent assault and battery on a person over 14-years-old and assault with intent to rape.

Police said a female reported that she had gone to check on DeVeau, who had recently went through a breakup.

The victim said that the two had went for a walk in the woods behind his home when DeVeau allegedly “forced himself on her and assaulted her.”

He was then arrested without incident on April 9.
