Westport Police arrest woman accused of check fraud against man with dementia

WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — The Westport Police Department said a woman was arrested after allegedly committing check fraud against a Vietnam veteran with dementia.

Bernadette Medeiros was charged with five counts of larceny from an elderly/disabled person over 60 years of age.

The department said it received a complaint from the victim’s daughter which said that Medeiros allegedly had written herself multiple checks using the man’s checkbook before cashing them for herself.

Medeiros also allegedly continued to write herself checks afterword.
