Westport rollover crash kills 1, injures 5

WESTPORT, Mass. – A rollover crash on I-195 in Westport killed a woman from New Bedford and injured her five passengers.

Cassandra Camacho, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police. The five others in the 2006 Honda Civic, also from New Bedford, were sent to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The three men and two women range from ages 19 to 30.

The preliminary police investigation shows the sedan was traveling on I-195 Eastbound around 3 a.m. Sunday when it left the roadway, struck a jersey barrier, then rolled over as it crossed all eastbound travel lanes, coming to a rest on its roof in the breakdown lane on the right side.

The right lane was closed for just over two hours during the incident and during the reconstruction of the crash. Authorities are investigating.
