What You Need in Your Hurricane Emergency Supply Kit

Prepare Now

Providence, RI (WLNE) – Rhode Island Emergency Management encourages everyone to have an emergency kit ready to use in the event you lose power during Hurricane Henri.

You will want to include water, non-perishable food items, hygiene items, first aid items, important documents, cash, flashlights with extra batteries and any prescription medications.

You should also charge laptops and cell phones now, so they will have a full charge if you lose power. Make sure portable chargers are also charged and ready to use. As the storm passes through, emergency management recommends minimizing cell phone use in order to conserve battery.

Once you have gathered your items in your kit, store them in a dry, secure place.

In addition, you should identify a safe room of your home, where you can go quickly if needed.

You can look over a checklist of items to have prepared for the storm at this link: http://www.riema.ri.gov/resources/citizens/prepare/threats/documents/Hurricane%20Preparedness.pdf

Once the storm has passed, driver only if necessary. Stay alert for flooded areas, debris, fallen trees and fallen powerlines.
